Ganesh’s Advice to HRs

As Lord Ganesh is preparing for his trip back home, he gave our HR team some food for thought. We’re always on the look-out for advice to help our employees overcome any issues they may have and to improve productivity and create a positive work environment.

Well, we got a few tips from the Vighnaharta himself to overcome these obstacles and decided to share them with our fellow HRs:

1. Think Out Of the Box

Ganesh recommends out-of-the-box thinking. After all, he won a race around the world against his brother using this exact method! You’ll have a better chance of accomplishing your goal if you try moving away from traditional techniques and using a little bit of creativity instead. Explore as many practical solutions as you can, you’ll definitely find the answer you are looking for no matter how impossible the task ahead seems!

2. Be Detail-Oriented

It’s the small things that add up to make the perfect big picture. Lord Ganesh’s ‘vahan’, Mooshak, symbolizes many things, one of them being the minute details of a subject. Concentrating on the details of a task, no matter how minute, can help you avoid any possible negative consequences in the future. Don’t underestimate the small things, it’s these seemingly inconsequential details that can decide the success or failure of a task.

3. Empathetic Ears

Lord Ganesh’s large ears allow him to listen to the prayers and needs of his disciples, he is a seeker of knowledge and wisdom. They signify an ideal person as one who possesses a great capacity to listen to others and can combine different points of view. As HRs, you are likely to be the first ones your employees will approach with their concerns. Like Lord Ganesh, have empathetic ears towards their concerns. Actively listen to the ideas put forth by your employees, and you might just be presented with a brilliant suggestion.

4. Calm and thoughtful words

Words are very powerful and leave a lasting impact. When you find yourself in a stressful situation, think of this wise suggestion by Bappa- be calm and thoughtful with your words. It is easy to offend someone or say something that can make a bad situation worse. No matter how stressful the situation may seem, stay calm and try to be empathetic in that situation. If you can understand the other person’s point of view, it can help you proceed in a way that can lead to a successful resolution of the matter at hand. This advice can be applied to almost every situation, be it conflict resolution or helping someone with an emergency.

5. Learn from your Success and Failures

Although nobody wants to fail, we learn things from our failures but we shouldn’t just stop there, there is much to learn even from our successes. As the HR, you are constantly making administrative decisions and while some prove fruitful, others don’t.

It is vital to accept both our successes and failures, look at them objectively and learn from them. In a nutshell, don’t let success go to your head and failure to your heart, instead take a step back and study them objectively to ensure future accomplishment of goals. We strongly recommend this view. After all, who is better than “Vighnaharta” to take advice from?

6. Cut off favoritism

Lord Ganesh helps all his subjects without discrimination and never shows favoritism. His final tip for the day is to cut off any favoritism in the office. It is unfair to your employees if you are partial towards one or a few over the others and can foster a negative work environment. We must learn to be impartial and fair to all those who work for us. Cutting out any favoritism will convince your employees that they can trust you to be fair and make them more likely to approach you when they need help.

That’s all folks! We hope you found this advice to be helpful like we did. It’s not every day that you get tips from the Lord of the People himself, we hope he’ll give us a few more pointers when he’s back next year, till then, Ganapati Bappa Moriya!
